With the increase in the price of diesel, the main routes could have an increase of around 8%, according to Sicetac values. The departments most affected by the blockades are key regions in the country’s foreign trade, such as Norte de Santander, Santander, Antioquia, Cesar, Cundinamarca, Nariño, Boyacá.

In September 2023, the country’s foreign trade moved around US$9 billion, between exports and imports, so it could be estimated that, with the current transport strike, around US$300 million could be lost daily.

“If we take Sicetac prices and apply the recent increase in diesel, transport routes will have an increase of around 8%, which will make the work of exporters and importers more expensive. However, the price adjustment was inevitable, since the deficit could not continue to deepen. The responsible thing to do is to make the adjustment and the best way to do it is gradually,” said Javier Díaz Molina, CEO of Analdex.

“We do not support the strike, because we believe that it does not solve the problem. We must ask the transporters to study mechanisms to reduce the costs of other variables that make up the cost structure of transport, achieving
efficiencies. For example, we must insist on electronic tolls that reduce the time spent at the toll booths and thus reduce travel times and fuel consumption,” added Díaz.

The departments most affected by the blockades have been Norte de Santander, Santander, Antioquia, Cesar, Cundinamarca, Nariño, Boyacá, which represent an important part of the country’s foreign trade.

According to figures from Dane, in 2023, the country’s exports totaled US$49.5 billion, of which US$43.711 billion were by sea, followed by air with US$3.52 billion and land with US$2.31 billion.
