The San Martín Bar Association celebrated the day of the professionals gathered there, which is commemorated every August 29. The event, which included several activities, including the inauguration of a coworking room in the hall of the Palacio de Tribunales San Martin, was led by the president of the entity, Marcos Vilaplana.

The day for Lawyer’s Day began with a mass in memory of the deceased lawyers held in the Cathedral of San Martín. Then, at 12 noon, the central act took place at the headquarters of the San Martín Bar Association, during which new professionals were sworn in.

Once this activity was completed, those present moved to the San Martín Courts, where the coworking room was inaugurated in the central hall of that building.

Leading all the activities was the president of the organization, Marcos Vilaplana, who in dialogue explained that the opening of the coworking room has to do “with the lessons that the pandemic left us.” “We lawyers worked the same as in the previous century, that is the reality, and what the pandemic did was expose some backlog issues, especially what has to do with virtual hearings, and this is a response to that,” emphasized.

“The lawyer used to come to the Courts to have a face-to-face hearing. With the pandemic, we are beginning to be able to do it through electronic platforms, without the lawyer having to leave his office. This service is designed for that, in a need that the lawyer has daily and that is often in the Palace of Courts ”, he added.

The space has “a very stable internet connection to be able to take hearings, and with everything the lawyer needs to carry out his task, such as bibliographic consultation, access to consultation of files in the totem poles, and the presence of service personnel from the College of Lawyers of San Martín ”, explained the head of the collegiate entity.

“Before the pandemic we faced the task of convincing the Buenos Aires Judiciary to go to the electronic file, since it was all paper. We began to travel that path, and we were already working with electronic files, but the pandemic forced us to speed up the changes almost from one day to the next,” he said, acknowledging that “today lawyers come to court much less, but they require a lot of more this service”. “If the lawyer is not in his office and is here, he can resolve a virtual hearing from this room,” he closed.

Finally, Vilaplana reflected on Lawyer’s Day and spoke about “what needs to be done.” “The daily task of the Bar Associations is to be at the lawyer’s side to train him, train him and be attentive to his needs, but also to guide him to recover the value that citizens have today regarding Justice,” he said.

“Today, at times when people demand the Justice the most, we are possibly at the lowest point regarding the qualification of the functioning of the Justice that the people have. The Bar Associations are working with the responsibility of training lawyers, future civil servants and magistrates, who satisfactorily respond to this demand for Justice ”, he concluded.
