Withings Introduces Next-Generation ScanWatch 2 and Affordable ScanWatch Light Models
Withings, the lesser-known but highly regarded company in the health-focused smartwatch industry, has unveiled its latest offerings: the ScanWatch 2 and the ScanWatch Light. These new models are set to provide users with a unique and stylish alternative to the popular Apple Watch Series 8 and Samsung Galaxy Watch 6.
The ScanWatch 2 comes in two case sizes, 38mm and 42mm, with physical hands on the dial. It features a 0.63-inch grayscale OLED screen as a complication and utilizes sapphire crystal and stainless steel for durability. The smartwatch boasts an upgraded 16-channel PPG sensor, a new TempTech24/7 temperature sensor, an improved accelerometer, and an altimeter.
In terms of design, the 42mm version of the ScanWatch 2 comes in silver/black and silver/white variants, with integrated lugs and a flat bezel. The 38mm version offers a bar-style lug design and is available in silver/white, silver/black, rose gold/sand, and a soon-to-be-released rose gold/blue model. Both models feature a fluoroelastomer strap with a stainless steel buckle.
On the other hand, the ScanWatch Light, available in a 37mm case, is made from stainless steel with Gorilla Glass covering the dial. It shares the same OLED screen complication as the ScanWatch 2 but lacks the upgraded sensors and technology. The ScanWatch Light comes in silver/black, silver/white, and rose gold/sand color options.
One of the standout features of the ScanWatch 2 is its breakthrough TempTech24/7 sensor. Matthieu Menanteau, the head of consumer products at Withings, explains that this technology is capable of continuously measuring body temperature. It combines four hardware sensors, including a classic temperature sensor, a heat flux sensor exclusive to Withings, heart rate measurement, and motion level monitoring, providing users with a comprehensive understanding of their body temperature throughout the day and night.
In addition to the temperature sensor, Withings has made significant improvements in other health-related areas. The optical sensor, accelerometer, and screen have all been redesigned to enhance accuracy and user experience. Withings’ HealthSense software has also been updated to provide better interpretation of signals and improved health tracking capabilities.
With the ScanWatch 2, Withings is introducing a cycle tracking system to help users monitor and manage their menstrual cycle. Menanteau elaborates on this feature, stating that it allows users to log their period and symptoms, which can then be synchronized with the accompanying app for comprehensive tracking.
For those who don’t require advanced temperature and blood oxygen monitoring, the ScanWatch Light is a more affordable option. It retains premium materials and sensors, including continuous heart rate tracking, cycle tracking, and sleep tracking, making it suitable for users focused on activity tracking.
The ScanWatch 2 has received FDA approval for atrial fibrillation detection through ECG recording. While FDA approval for blood oxygen measurements is pending, Withings is confident in the ScanWatch 2’s performance and intends to secure approval in the future. Menanteau assures customers that all key metrics have undergone rigorous testing and comply with FDA and CE regulations.
The ScanWatch 2 is priced at $350 for both case sizes, while the ScanWatch Light comes in at $250. Both models are set to be released in October. With their stylish designs, innovative features, and competitive pricing, the ScanWatch 2 and ScanWatch Light may just steal the spotlight from their more popular competitors.
