Colombo: The Indian cricket team for the T20 World Cup was announced last week. Despite being a strong team, there were many comments for and against. Not including senior player Mohammad Shami in the team has led to considerable opposition. Similarly, the omission of the in-form Malayali player Sanju Samson was also a surprising decision. Rishabh Pant and Dinesh Karthik have been replaced as wicketkeepers.
Former Sri Lankan player Mahela Jayawardene says that even with a strong team, things will not be easy for India in the T20 World Cup. The reasons given by him are as follows… “The absence of Ravindra Jadeja is the main concern for India. Jadeja’s position was the balance for the team. He could have played at number five. “Hardik should have played as sixth,” Jayawardene said.

Mahela also answered the question whether Dinesh Karthik or Rishabh Pant will get a place in the team. “This is a perplexing question. Left-handers are important in a match. Therefore, Pant will be considered more than Karthik. The ball will be played at number four. With this, Karthik will have to be out,” added the former Sri Lankan player.

Before the T20 World Cup, India is playing six T20 matches in India. India will play three T20 matches each against Australia and South Africa. Both these series are crucial for Rishabh Pant. Pant has not been able to bring out excellence in recent times. Pant was included in the team after dropping the in-form Sanju. There were even criticisms that Pant was not getting a place in the team.
