Without the full overcoming clause – the right-wing government has no right to exist Boaz Golan

by time news

The condition agreed upon between the People of Israel and the right-wing bloc was the required move – giving the legislature the power to overcome the High Court. A move that will leave the sovereign the option to determine which laws to pass. Only the sovereign.

The leaks coming out of the meeting rooms between Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the leaders of the right wing parties show that Netanyahu is apparently in no hurry, if at all, to act to fulfill the commitment, including his personal one, to the people of Israel.

It is important to note, the superseding clause is part of an overall course of the Basic Law on Legislation and Judiciary – a required law, to bring about a situation where the High Court will not run the country. The comprehensive law is not currently in the discussions between the parties on the basic lines of the new government, but it should come up down the road.

As the first step, the parties committed to the people of Israel the passage of overcoming as an initial step of the new government and immediately after its establishment.

Moving the passage of overcoming to the side and pushing the issue aside, would be a blatant violation of the agreement between the people of Israel and the right-wing bloc.

Even if the repeal clause does not pass – after all, the right-wing government has no right to exist.
