Blagovest Georgiev, the municipal councilor of the capital city, caused an accident, after which he escaped, and when he was detained, he refused to be tested for alcohol and drugs.
Yesterday at around 9:00 p.m., the Ministry of Internal Affairs received a report that an Audi A4 drove into the oncoming traffic and crashed into a Skoda Superb on Dragan Tsankov Street and Kiril Vidinski Street in Sofia. The entire right side of the Skoda was crushed, but the driver of the Audi did not stop. Witnesses followed him and saw him park the car at 28 Elin Pelin Street.
It turned out that behind the wheel was Blagovest Georgiev, 43, a municipal councilor in the Capital Municipal Council from the PP-DB and “Save Sofia” coalition. He refused to be tested for alcohol and drug use.
The metropolitan councilor, who caused the accident last night and made the witnesses suspect that he had consumed alcohol, is a member of the committee on transport and road safety.
He also had a refusal in 2007, and in 2017 he was found after consuming alcohol 0.8 and had his license revoked for 8 months. Then he was fined BGN 700. He was detained in the district office. Witnesses were found who stated that it was Georgiev who drove the car.
The mayor is a member of the committee on transport and road safety in SOS, the committee on territorial planning, architecture and housing policy and the committee on children, youth and sports.
His mandate is from last year until 2027. He is a lawyer by education.
