The WNBA has moved Game 6 of its Finals to 12:30 p.m. ET on Thursday at Atlanta’s State Farm Arena, resolving a scheduling clash with an NBA game and ensuring a larger audience for the championship-deciding match.
The WNBA finalized plans to host Game 6 of its 2026 Finals at State Farm Arena in Atlanta on Thursday at 12:30 p.m. ET, shifting the game to an afternoon slot to accommodate an NBA Hawks game scheduled at the same venue later that day. The decision, announced Monday, allows both the Atlanta Dream and Golden State Valkyries to play their championship matchup in a 17,000-seat arena, a stark contrast to the 3,500-seat Gateway Center Arena where the Dream typically hosts home games.
Adjusting Schedule to Resolve Conflict
The move resolved a complex logistical challenge: the Hawks’ scheduled 7 p.m. ET game against the Cleveland Cavaliers at State Farm Arena conflicted with the original 8 p.m. The WNBA announced Game 6 will be played at 12:30 p.m. ET on Thursday. To address this, the WNBA adjusted the contest to an earlier slot, enabling the Hawks to play their game at 8 p.m. ET. Commissioner Cathy Engelbert highlighted the collaboration with the NBA, Dream, Valkyries, and State Farm Arena in a statement: We thank the NBA, Dream, Valkyries, Hawks, State Farm Arena and USA Network for the collaboration and flexibility that made this move possible.

The decision followed a series of adjustments to fit the Finals into State Farm Arena. Games 3 and 4 were moved to the venue after the Hawks’ schedule required changes, and both sold out. The Dream’s initial home games in 2026 were held at Gateway Center Arena, the league’s smallest venue, but the team secured access to State Farm Arena for playoff contests. The WNBA’s shift for Game 6 ensures the league will not face similar conflicts again, as the Dream will begin playing all home games at State Farm Arena in 2027.
Players Adjust to Early Start
Dream guard Allisha Gray downplayed the early start time, stating, I mean, it's the Finals. You just gotta do what you gotta do. We're locked in on winning Game 6.
Coach Karl Smesko acknowledged potential challenges with shootaround but emphasized the team’s focus on the championship. The move also drew praise from fans, with 10,000 tickets sold within 90 minutes of their release on Monday.

The outcome of Game 5, set for Monday in San Francisco, will determine whether Game 6 proceeds as planned. If the Valkyries win, the championship will be decided in Atlanta’s afternoon slot; a Dream victory would force a Game 7. The WNBA’s ability to manage scheduling conflicts highlights the growing integration of women’s and men’s leagues, with State Farm Arena serving as a shared venue for both the Dream and Hawks.
