Dhe business model is well established. Take a motorhome with a popular floor plan, expand the standard equipment to include items that are basically always retrofitted by the buyer, and offer the leisure vehicle with a financial customer benefit at a special price. Knaus-Tabbert has already used this strategy successfully with the subsidiary brand Weinsberg with the Edition Pepper model, now the parent company Knaus is also offering such a “bargain”. Van TI 650 MEG Vansation is the name of the beautiful child, the partially integrated mobile is based on the Fiat Ducato and costs almost completely equipped, a relatively slim 57,000 euros.

The standard includes 16-inch alloy wheels, a navigation system with radio and reversing camera, a satellite TV system and the four-meter-long awning. Ordered as a single item, the extras would add up to a good 16,300 euros. This is a highly attractive offer for many campers, only if you take a closer look you will discover where the red pencil was used to make the motorhome an economic success model for its manufacturer.

The entry on the passenger side has an integrated step, which is called coupé entry and is basically easy to manage. However, the step becomes long when the vehicle is leveled with drive-up wedges under the front wheels. This significantly increases the distance between the floor and the living area, as the one-piece door is positioned far to the front. This would be remedied by an electrically extending, additional entry level for 500 euros. Inside: Opposite is the half dinette with a bench for two and an extendable table, the driver and front passenger seats can be rotated and become places at the table or comfortable TV armchairs if the 27-inch installed on the outer wall of the washroom -Flat screen showing colorful pictures. Another seat can be found between the entrance door and the passenger seat. A tilting roof and a panorama window above the driver’s cab let light into the interior, both can be shaded like all other opening windows or closed with a fly screen.

Everything on and everything in

The windows, like the roller blinds, are of a simple nature; they cannot be opened steplessly, but with two detents and at a maximum angle of 45 degrees. However, the kitchen shines with plenty of storage space and two lavish, roller-mounted pull-outs, which should lock independently after closing. At least the bottom drawer didn’t keep the promise, and shortly after driving off in the first right-hand bend it crashed out of the lock, along with the dishes, dismantling itself and half of the ceramic plates shattered. That shouldn’t really happen to a manufacturer who always cites the woodworking skills of his home in the Bavarian Forest as a quality feature.
