In sporting terms, the duel between VfL Wolfsburg and FC Bayern had a lot to offer. But the atmosphere could have been better, at least according to Wolfsburg’s coach.
Coach Ralph Hasenhüttl of VfL Wolfsburg has criticised his own fans after the 2:3 defeat against FC Bayern Munich on the first Bundesliga matchday. “It was a bit too quiet for me at times,” said the Austrian shortly after the final whistle in an interview with the internet sports channel DAZN.
“When we throw ourselves into every duel and turn a game around, there was a good atmosphere for a short time. But then you concede the second goal and then it’s all back to normal. That can’t be right.”
Later in the press conference, Hasenhüttl explained his criticism again. “I know: We want to be upfront and want to deliver something first and then demand something. But I know it from the Premier League: The whole stadium goes wild just because we got a throw-in,” he said. “We need more support in moments like that. That’s how it can be in the future, that everything grows together here. That’s what we all want. And I missed that sometimes today.”
