A woman traveling by bus from Rio de Janeiro to Bahia carrying rifles and handguns was arrested by the Civil Police in the early hours of Monday (3).

According to police officers, Gabriela de Oliveira de Souza received the cargo in the Rocinha favela, in the south zone, to take it to Salvador.

Civilian police officers from the 78th DP (Fonseca) who were investigating drug trafficking discovered that Gabriela would transport the weapons to Bahia in a commercial bus that would depart from Ilha do Governador, in the north zone.

The agents located the vehicle, which was approached at the time of the Penha neighborhood, at the beginning of the morning.

A search of the luggage compartment found a suitcase containing two rifles, five pistols and ten pistol magazines, as well as ammunition.

The suspect told the police that she had been hired to take the suitcase from Rio to Bahia. She also said that she was not aware of the content received from an unknown person. But police officers found photos on social media of the woman carrying rifles and other firearms, among other armed people in a community.

The prisoner will respond for the crimes of illegally transporting a firearm for restricted use with suppressed numbering and association with drug trafficking.
