Mattanchery: Woman civil police officer of Mattanchery station K.V. is happy to be part of the team that won double bronze for India in the Asian Dragon Boat Championship held in Thailand. Shalini. India won the double bronze in a competition that was contested by 11 Asian countries including China, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and Australia, which participated in the competition with special permission.
Shalini was also the only Malayali in the Indian women’s team. There were nine Malayalees in the Indian men’s team. India won bronze in the women’s 1000m and 200m events.
In 1000 meters, Thailand and Australia won first and second place respectively, while in 200 meters Australia won first place and Thailand second place. Indian Dragon Boat Federation secretary and coach Reji Sudhakaran was the coach. In 2018, she participated in the Nehru Trophy competition in the women’s category of the police force and won the second position.
In the Nehru Trophy competition held in 2019, the team of which Shalini is a member also won the first place in the women’s category. Shalini’s women’s team won two silver medals in 1000m and 200m at the national competition held in Punnamada in April. It was this performance that gave Shalini a chance to join the Indian team.
