Woman councilor arrested after watching BBC documentary on Gujarat riots

Police arrested a Chennai councilor on Thursday after he watched a BBC documentary on the Gujarat riots, which had been banned by the central government.

International media BBC has released a documentary on the 2002 Gujarat riots. The central government has banned this documentary, which has released two parts so far. Also, the central government’s refusal to allow the screening of this documentary has caused strong political repercussions.

And left-wing organizations are trying to screen the BBC documentary.

In this case, the members of the Youth Association, who chanted that they will defend the Constitution, garlanded the Ambedkar statue of T. P. Chatram, Annanagar, and sat on the roadside and watched the BBC documentary.

The police arrested youth association members including A. Priyadarshini, the 98th councilor of the Chennai Corporation, who watched the documentary released by the BBC news agency with them.
