A woman went viral on TikTok when she told how she dated a boy who was missing a leg for three months as a teenager. The story was told in the British tabloid Daily Mail. “If you think you’re absent-minded, let me tell you about the time I dated a guy for three months before I found out he didn’t have a leg,” she begins, narrating the story in a video posted on her account.
Tiffany, now an adult, said that when she was 17, she saw her ex-boyfriend at a rodeo and it was love at first sight. After exchanging phone numbers, the two talked for 3 weeks until they decided they were completely in love. The young woman says that both lived together, in that usual intensity of teenage love, but, over time, Tiffany began to suspect some of her beloved’s attitudes.
“He would show up to my softball games wearing pants in 32C heat. And I’d be like ‘weird fashion sense but ok’ and say nothing,” she explains in the video. “And he played basketball, but he didn’t want me to watch any of the games, he said it would make him nervous.”
When the suspicions that something could be going on, Tiffany decided to pay more attention to things and, one day, looking at the photos in her gallery, she noticed something unusual: her boyfriend, apparently, did not have a leg.
She sent the photo to her friends to analyze, and they all came to the same conclusion. Really, there should have been something different there. But instead of talking about it, she just wondered.
Not that this was a problem, she explains in the video, but the fact that he never said anything about it, and she didn’t realize it either, made for an uncomfortable situation. “I didn’t mind that, of course, but now that I hadn’t realized it, and he hadn’t said it, it was going to get weird, because like, how do you approach this kind of thing? Besides, we did things that boyfriends do, you know. ..but I didn’t notice”.
The denouement came on prom night, at a celebration after the event at a lake. “Oh, he’s going to have to wear shorts,” she thought. So, before the day of the party, the guy broached the subject and explained that he had polio, a disease that causes paralysis, and Tiffany confessed that she already imagined that something was going on.
“But why didn’t you say anything?” he questioned. “Because you met me without knowing it, time passed and it was strange to explain”, justified the boy. The couple ended up having fun with the situation and dating for another six months, before graduation, when both went to college in different places.
Today, graduated and adult, Tiffany remembers the case with humor. “That’s how distracted I am,” she finished her off.
