Woman dies after landslide caused by storm in São Gonçalo (RJ) – News

One person died during a landslide in São Gonçalo, in the metropolitan region of Rio de Janeiro. The city was hit by heavy rain on Monday night (13) and, according to the city hall, 47 support points were set up to help the victims.

The collapse where the victim died was on Rua Antônio Felix da Silva, in the Engenho Pequeno neighborhood. In the same neighborhood, two people were rescued alive from the rubble of a building that collapsed on Rua Aideia Barreto Couto.

Firefighters and Civil Defense are still at the scene searching for other victims. The municipality is still in the attention stage.

According to the city hall, during the storm, the rainfall index in the region was 200mm. Because of the rain, the Civil Defense issued an alert via SMS to the population informing them of the possibility of heavy rain.

Sirens were triggered in the neighborhoods Gradim 1 (Pontal) and 2, Patronato, Arsenal, Boa Vista, Engenho Pequeno 4, Engenho Pequeno 5, Engenho Pequeno 2, Porto Novo, Tenente Jardim, Zumbi 1, Zumbi 3, New Greece, New Mexico and Itaúna.

The rain also hit the first floor of the Central Emergency Room, in Zé Garoto. Unit employees turned off the X-ray and tomography equipment, air conditioning and elevator to avoid shocks and short circuits. The unit was quickly cleaned and sanitized, so that the emergency service returned.
