The Court of Justice of São Paulo sentenced Juliana Cristina da Silva to 16 years and four months in prison and six months in detention for the death of José Hairton de Andrade and Raimundo Barbosa dos Santosin October 2015.

At the time, Juliana was driving drunk and ran over José Hairton and Raimundo, who were painting the bike lanes on Avenida Luiz Dumont Villares, in Santana, in the north of São Paulo, in the early hours of October 18, 2015.

After running over the workers, Juliana did not help and continued driving in a zigzag along the avenue. According to witnesses, the woman stuck her head out of the car to be able to see the road, as the glass was broken due to the crash.

In testimony, Juliana claimed that she did not remember the facts and stated that she regained her memory only when she arrived at the police station.

The sentence was fixed at 16 years and four months in prison and six months in detention, considering double homicide and failure to provide assistance.

The decision understood that the crime was heinous and established the fulfillment of the 16 years and four months of prison initially in a closed regime. As for detention, Justice established it in an open regime.

The Public Prosecutor’s Office had requested the issuance of an arrest warrant in view of the amount of the sentence, but the Justice denied the request.

According to judge Paula Marie Konno, the woman accompanied the process in freedom and no intercurrence was recorded.

In the decision, the magistrate maintained the precautionary measures such as appearing in court every two months to justify activities, the prohibition of being absent from the district for a period longer than 30 days, except with express judicial authorization, suspension of permission/qualification to driving a motor vehicle until after the court decision and night collection (from 10 pm to 6 am).
