Alabama Woman with Two Uteri Gives Birth to Two Babies

Kelsey Hatcher of Dora, Alabama has made headlines after giving birth to two babies, each carried in a separate uterus. Hatcher, who was diagnosed with a rare condition called uterus didelphys at the age of 17, delivered the babies after a combined 20 hours of labor.

The condition, which causes a woman to have two uteri and two cervixes, occurs in only 0.3% of women, according to a report published by the University of Alabama at Birmingham. The chances of carrying a baby in both uteri, also known as a dicavitary pregnancy, is estimated to be one-in-a-million.

Hatcher welcomed her first child, Roxi, on Tuesday, followed by the arrival of her second daughter, Rebel, on Wednesday. Both mother and babies are reported to be healthy.

In an interview with WVTM-TV, Hatcher expressed her joy at the precious moments spent with her new family. “That was our first moment of just us four together,” she said. “And really getting to breathe that in and be in the moment and look at the girls together.”

Hatcher and her husband, Caleb, already have three children, ages 7, 4, and 2. She revealed that these babies will be their last.
