New Delhi: Sri Lanka registered its second consecutive win by crushing Malaysia by 144 runs in the Women’s Asia Cup T20 tournament with the help of captain Chamari Atapattu’s unbeaten century and Shashini Gimhani’s spin magic. Sri Lanka scored 184 runs for four wickets with the help of captain Chamari’s career best unbeaten innings of 119 runs in 69 balls with 14 fours and seven sixes. Chamari shared 64 runs for the second wicket with Harshitha Samarawickrama (26) and 115 runs for the third wicket with Anushka Sanjivani (31). Chamari Atapattu has become the first player to score a century in Women’s Asia Cup. Winifred Duraisingam was the most successful bowler from Malaysia’s side who took two wickets for 34 runs. In reply, Malaysia’s team collapsed for just 40 runs in 19.5 overs in front of the sharp bowling of 15-year-old left-arm spinner Gimhani (three wickets for nine runs), Kavisha Dilhari (two wickets for four runs) and Kavya Kavindi (two wickets for seven runs). Only Elsa Hunter (10) from Malaysia reached double figures. In another match of the group, Bangladesh registered its first win by defeating Thailand by seven wickets.

Chasing Thailand’s target of 97 runs, Bangladesh women’s cricket team won by scoring 100 runs for three wickets in 17.3 overs with the help of a half-century by opener Murshida Khatun (50). Murshida hit eight fours in her 50-ball innings. Thailand women’s team, batting first, could only score 96 runs for nine wickets despite a good innings by opener Nataya Boochetham (40). Rabia Khan took four wickets for 14 runs for Bangladesh. Ritu Moni (two wickets for 10 runs) and Sebikun Nahar Jasmine (two wickets for 28 runs) took two wickets each. Sri Lanka’s team has reached the top of Group B with four points from two wins in two matches. Thailand and Bangladesh have two points each. Thailand, however, is in second place in the four-team group due to better net run rate.
