Speakers at the Women for Parity National Congress gave strong testimonials this Friday (4). The event held at Bioparque Pantanal promoted the “Dialogues for Equity” with the presence of women with political office.

Mayor Adriane Lopes (PP) highlighted the challenging days she has faced as the first woman to occupy the City Hall. “I have paved the way. There are days when I want to go back home. But I remain firm and preach parity wherever I go”.

Of the 34 leadership positions in Campo Grande City Hall, 24 are occupied by women. “We have to leave the discourse and move towards practices. It won’t be easy, but take a stand and demand respect. I have to prove every day that I am capable,” added the mayor.

For the Minister of the TSE (Superior Electoral Court), Maria Claudia Bucchianeri, she said that women’s roof is made of glass. “Because even in that, in the stories, they put a shoe so that we could fit. We will not accept what is already so naturalized. Confrontation is allowed,” she pointed out.

With only 18% of the National Congress composed of women, the minister recalled that 53% of the electorate is female. “Half of the legislative houses have one or no women. And in more than a thousand municipalities in the country there is not a chair occupied by a woman. There is something very wrong going on.”

State deputy Mara Caseiro (PSDB) also said that after 45 years in the state, only 11 women were elected state deputy. “I started running for election in 1992 and I carry many traumas with me. There were people who said, go take care of your teeth, forget about politics ”, she lamented.
