Women conclude personality by dickpic

by time news

In the category of special studies, this research into personality traits and the male genitalia is again a special piece of science. Because apparently women associate the size of the penis and preference for hair growth with certain personal characteristics. And so they quickly draw, wrongly, conclusions about a man’s personality, based on a simple dick pic.

The research was recently published in the scientific journal Sexuality & Culture. The idea for this study arose from noises from the researchers’ personal environment. In which singles exchange certain, specific, imagery (aka a dickpic) on dating apps or other social networks. Researcher Thomas R. Brooks, with expertise in psychology, wanted to investigate how explicit media influence online partner selection

Research on male genitalia and characteristics

For the study, 106 students, mostly female, looked at various photos of the male genitalia. In all shapes and sizes. Then they had to answer questions, based on the visual material. For example, whether someone would be enthusiastic, reliable, anxious, sympathetic or complex. But also questions about his sexual experience and preference.

Dick and personality

And apparently a penis, very quickly, determines how a woman feels about this person. A few conclusions in a row:

Thin and shorter penises were more associated with neurotic than longer and thicker ones. Whereas, for example, longer and thicker penises were associated with being extroverted, open to new experiences, more sexually active, better in bed and more of a ‘pleaser’ (in the bedroom). The ‘standard’ penis was not overtly associated with personality traits, but it was considered more attractive, reliable, friendlier, more open and sexually active than, say, smaller or narrower penises. And this one was less associated with “neurotic” and “pleaser.”

In addition, it turned out that the preference for trimming pubic hair or not also had an influence. Long pubic hair was associated with introverted, conscientious, pleasant and open to new experiences. But also associated with the fewest number of bed partners. As opposed to having trimmed hair aligned with attractive, more sexually active, better in bed, and more of a pleaser.

People judge on ‘dickpic’

According to Brooks, people regularly judge when they receive a photo of a genitalia. “When you send a photo, you give that other person more material to make assumptions about you.” So is a man considering sending a photo of his young man? Then you apparently get there with a thicker and longer penis, with trimmed pubic hair in the first instance. But this ultimately says nothing about the actual character traits. In addition, this research substantiates that we are still regularly guilty of superficial, sexist and biased partner choices. Sexologist Goedele Liekens previously gave her vision on the ‘ideal penis’.

Incidentally, Brooks emphasized that the photos of the penises were from white and circumcised men. “I think it would be helpful to increase the racial diversity and circumcision status of the penises.” In a follow-up study, attention will be paid to the associations in differences of race or circumcision or not.

These two characteristics are essential for a stable relationship, according to psychologist
