The “polisario” has confiscated the right to family planning, a natural choice available to every woman, by imposing a policy of forced procreation on women in the camps, said the NGO accredited to the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), in an intervention during the 55th session of the Human Rights Council.

The “polisario” also forced women to hand over their children to their leaders, with a view to mass deportation to the countries of the former Eastern camp, under the pretext of pursuing studies, PDES said, adding that these children are forced to remain for many years in these countries far from their families, without women having the possibility of protesting against this practice.

He added that the women in the camps were detained and subjected to all kinds of torture and ill-treatment in the context of illegal detention, without the host country intervening to offer them legal conditions, including access to medical treatment and a lawyer.

Despite all attempts to put an end to these heinous crimes, the leaders of the “polisario” continue to exploit and commit abuses of power in their relations with women and girls, and benefit from total impunity, the host country, Algeria, totally diverting its attention from the situation, deplored the NGO.

”In the absence of control and measures to ensure the protection of women and girls and prevent repeated attacks, the Algerian state perpetuates an inhumane policy that places women in an unacceptable situation, with health and psychological risks. This reality, according to the NGO, affects women in the Tindouf camps, in southwestern Algeria, and exacerbates pre-existing inequalities and discrimination between the sexes.”

Despite the fragility of the laws, Algeria, as the host country, deprives the women in the Tindouf camps of them, thus removing them from the rules of international law, concludes PDES.
