Kabul: The Taliban government has instructed airlines not to allow women on board flights unless accompanied by relatives. The Taliban closed secondary schools for girls in Afghanistan on Wednesday. Officials from the Haryana – based Afghan and CamAir airlines told the international news agency AFP that the Taliban had instructed them to stop women traveling alone.
Last Thursday, Taliban representatives held talks with airline officials and immigration officials. The Afghan government, meanwhile, has said it will not ban women. However, after the meeting with the Taliban, the international media received a copy of the letter issued by the airline officials on behalf of the employees. It tells about the new proposal.
“Women will not be allowed to travel on domestic and international flights without male relatives,” the letter said. Travel agents have also confirmed that tickets will not be issued to women traveling alone. The Afghan woman, who was on her way to Dubai on a Cam Air flight, was reportedly stopped by officials.
