New Delhi: The ICC said on Tuesday that the Women’s T20 World Cup will be shifted to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) due to the unrest prevailing in Bangladesh after the ouster of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The World Cup will be held in Dubai and Sharjah from October 3 to 20. ICC Chief Executive Geoff Allardice said, ‘It is disappointing for Bangladesh not to host the Women’s T20 World Cup as we know that the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) had prepared for a memorable event.’ He further said, ‘I want to thank the BCB team for trying their best to organize this mega event in Bangladesh. But, given the current situation in Bangladesh, the governments of many countries had expressed their concern and did not want to send their team here. However, the hosting rights will remain with Bangladesh, but the matches will not be played there.’

Geoff Allardyce further said, ‘We hope to bring an ICC global event to Bangladesh in the future. I would also like to thank the Emirates Cricket Board for taking the responsibility of hosting on behalf of the BCB. Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe also extended a helping hand, for which we are grateful. We hope to see ICC global events in these two countries in 2026 as well. Let us tell you that Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe also extended their hands to host the Women’s T20 World Cup. But in the end the ICC gave this big responsibility to the UAE.
