Korean female archers are attempting to achieve the feat of winning 10 consecutive gold medals, something that has only happened once in Olympic history.

The women’s team archery recurve (Im Si-hyeon, Jeon Hun-young, and Nam Su-hyeon) defeated the Netherlands 5-4 (57-53, 52-53, 57-58, 59-51,) in a close match that went into a shoot-off in the women’s team semifinals of the 2024 Paris Olympics held at the Invalides Stadium in Paris on the 28th (local time) and advanced to the final.

If the women’s team wins the final, it will be the Korean team’s 10th Olympic gold medal in the women’s team event.

Korea has never once ceded the top podium in women’s archery team event to another country, starting from the 1988 Seoul Olympics to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Since the team archery event was newly established at the Seoul Olympics, South Korea’s women’s archery team has virtually never missed out on winning the Olympic title in this event.

If he wins the upcoming Paris Olympics, he will become the 10th consecutive Olympic champion.

In Olympic history, there has only been one instance where a team has simultaneously achieved the feat of winning 10 consecutive titles and winning every competition since the sport was first introduced.

The U.S. swimming team has won 10 consecutive gold medals in the event from the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

The semifinals were not an easy match. The opposing team, the Netherlands, threatened Korea by losing the first set to Korea and then winning the second and third sets. In particular, in the third set, they pushed Korea to the edge by hitting the last three of their six shots for 10 points.

However, in the fourth set, Jeon Hoon-young, Nam Su-hyeon, and Im Si-hyeon, who entered the game first, all hit their first three shots into 10-point ranges, scoring 59 points out of 60 to tie the set score at 4-4 and regain the momentum.

In the shoot-off that followed, the first shooter, Jeon Hun-young, scored 9 points and the second shooter, Nam Su-hyeon, scored 10 points, but the Netherlands only scored 8-7.

Korea, which eventually defeated the Netherlands with a shoot-off score of 26-23, will challenge for a golden tower that will be remembered in Olympic history in the final.
