Five days after its narrow defeat against OL at the Parc des Princes (1-0) on Sunday, the PSG women’s team reassured itself by winning 1-0 in Saint-Étienne, three days before going to challenge the English Manchester United in the Champions League, Tuesday evening (2nd round first leg, 9 p.m.).

Jocelyn Prêcheur’s team scored quickly, then failed to completely protect themselves from the score. Enterprising, the Stéphanoises were unable to get a clear chance, except on an equalizing ball at the very end of the game: a cross from Otu passed dangerously in front of the Parisian goal, and missed interventions from Tounkara and Calligaris (85th ).

From the 6th minute, PSG set the tone on the Aimé-Jacquet pitch in Etrat, at the foot of the ASSE training center. Well served in depth by Karchaoui on the left wing, Martens launched into a raid, entered the opposing area without difficulty and offered Chawinga his first goal in the Parisian jersey with a small tight cross (0-1 , 6th).

Loaned this summer for a season to PSG, the striker from Malawi, 27, was crowned top scorer in women’s Serie A with 23 goals scored last season for Inter Milan.

Much in demand by her partners, Chawinga, well served in the Saint-Etienne area, missed the opportunity for the break a little later, getting tangled in her control before being dispossessed by Carage (26th).

Ten minutes later, while the Stéphanoises remained frozen on a free kick taken from the right by Baltimore, Chawinga failed to cut the trajectory and score (36th).

In an unusual pink jersey (in support of Operation Pink October, the national campaign in favor of breast cancer screening), Laurent Mortel’s Stéphanoises appeared well organized although initially positioned a little low to escape the threat Parisian midfielders and attackers.

After which, the pink block positioned itself higher. The Stéphanoises defended better and managed to carry out some offensives, notably through the attackers Browne and Caputo during the first period, but without really worrying Kiedrzynek, the PSG goalkeeper.

Returning to another organization in the second half, the promoted team increased their pressure on the Parisiennes, but without achieving their goals.

Coming in for the last quarter of an hour on Sunday, Katoto, looking for rhythm after a year without competition (injured cruciate ligaments in her right knee), made her appearance at the hour mark. She stood out with a header quite far to the left of the Forézien goal (75th), then a second too far to the right (78th). And finally, by coming up against Gignoux, the Saint-Etienne goalkeeper, in added time.
