Women’s Junior World Cup – India, South Africa clash today

ICC The inaugural Women’s Junior T20 Cricket World Cup (Under 19) is being held in Benoni and Potchefstroom, South Africa. A total of 16 teams will participate in this tournament which will be held from today till the 29th.

The participating teams are divided into 4 divisions. Australia, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, USA in Group ‘A’, England, Pakistan, Rwanda, Zimbabwe in Group ‘B’, Ireland, Indonesia, New Zealand, West Indies in Group ‘C’, India, South Africa, United Arab Emirates, Scotland in Group ‘D’ The teams have been placed.

Each team will play the other teams in their division once each. At the end of the league round, the top-3 teams in each division will qualify for the Super Six round with a total of 12 teams. Let them be divided into 6 teams each and wrestle in Super Six. The top two teams in each of the Super Sixes will advance to the semi-finals.

Teams like Australia, England and India are leading the chances of winning the trophy.

The Indian squad for the tournament is: Shabali Verma (captain), Swetha Sherawat, Richa Ghosh, Trisha, Saumya Tiwari, Sonia Mendia, Hurley Kala, Hrishitha Basu, Sonam Yadav, Mannath Kashyap, Archana Devi, Parshavi Chopra, Dilas Sadhu, Balak Nas, Shabnam Shakil.

The Indian team will meet Olule Seo-led South Africa at 5.15 pm today. They face the United Arab Emirates on the 16th and Scotland on the 18th.

The semi-finals (Jan 27) and final (Jan 29) will be played in Potsdam. It is to be noted that all these 3 matches have an alternate day (reserve day).
