Mumbai: The Women’s Premier League T20 cricket series kicked off in Mumbai yesterday with spectacular performances.

Harmanpreet Kaur-led Mumbai Indians faced Gujarat Giants in the opening match at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai.

After winning the toss, Gujarat opted to bowl first and Mumbai Indians took action. The players of Mumbai Indians performed sky fun according to the first match. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur scored 65 runs off 30 balls with 14 fours. As a result, the team scored 207 runs for 5 wickets at the end of 20 overs.

Not only in batting but also in bowling, Mumbai Indians brought Gujarat under their control. With the target of 208 runs to win, the Gujarat team was unable to cope with the bowling of Mumbai Indians. Faced with a series of wickets, the Gujarat team scored only 64 runs and lost miserably.

Apart from Dayalan Hemalatha and Monika Patel, who dropped in the last phase, no player in Anthani crossed the single target run. It was a great tragedy to have 4 duck outs. Lost 7 wickets for 23 runs. Hemalatha scored 29 runs and remained unbeaten till the end.

Mumbai Indians player Saika Ishaq bowled tremendously and took 4 wickets and was the cause of Gujarat team’s downfall. Nut Siver Friend and Amelia Kerr took 2 wickets each. With this, the Mumbai Indians won the Women’s Premier League by a huge margin of 143 runs in the first match.
