End of the (little) suspense: Gérard Prêcheur and his staff are leaving for at least one season at the head of the women’s section of PSG. The 63-year-old coach who arrived at the start of the 2022-23 season had expressed doubts about his willingness to continue after a nerve-wracking first exercise. Finalist of the Coupe de France, second in D1, each time overtaken by OL, his former club, Prêcheur demanded above all “sporting guarantees” from PSG in order to be able to “win”.

When he arrived in 2022, Prêcheur and his staff had signed a contract for two seasons, one of which was “optional”. This is activated automatically in the event of qualification of PSG for the next Champions League. What happened with second place in the league? Almost since the place only allows access to the last round of play-offs before the group stage.

At the end of May, after the ultimate defeat at the Parc des Princes against OL (0-1), Prêcheur said: “The option is over. But I too am wondering. I am not very young. I am no longer old enough to build. Maybe next year… There will be the return of Paulina (Dudek), Marie Antoinette (Katoto), Kadi (Diani)… We’ll have some good recruits (smile). I need recovery time. I’m tired of taking bamboo shots behind the labels. PSG must provide guarantees to build a great club. Being competitive is not enough. I want to end the career with a will to win”.

Diani and Fazer, two files still in progress

Since then, the Preachers (his son Jocelyn is his first assistant) and the sports management of Angelo Castellazzi and Sabrina Delannoy have been able to discuss the continuation of the project. The instruments now seem to be tuned and the construction of the workforce will be able to continue with all parties. PSG began its renewal several days ago.

Ashley Lawrence, Kheira Hamraoui, Barbora Votikova have already officially left the club. Sarah Bouhaddi and Mariana Georgieva should follow. The case of the Icelandic Berglind Thorvalsdottir differs somewhat since she announced her pregnancy on social networks, the first in the recent history of PSG for a player under contract. On the arrivals side, as we announced, the Polish Katarzyna Kiedrzynek is back as goalkeeper after three years in Germany. The Swiss Viola Calligaris, side, is also one of the recruits.

It remains for PSG and Gérard Prêcheur to convince two important players: Kadidiatou Diani first, Laurina Fazer second. At the end of the contract in less than three weeks, they still have not extended in Paris.
