Most of the complaints related to safety are from women. However, many cases have come to light when no employee lodged any complaint regarding ill-treatment or safety or other things. According to statistics, employees of more than 900 companies have no complaints.
According to our colleague Economic Times, India’s top 1062 listed companies received a lot of complaints from employees in the financial year 2023. According to Business Responsibility and Sustainability Reporting (BRSR) data obtained from the Prime database, more than 2.20 lakh complaints related to health and safety were received. And about 75 thousand complaints were related to overworking.

‘It is impossible for there to be no complaints’
Professor Bino Paul of Tata Institute of Social Sciences says that employees not raising their complaints is a matter of serious concern. It is impossible that there are no complaints. Nagaraj Krishnan, managing director of Aparajitha Corporate Services, said complaints are not always systematically recorded in companies. This does not mean that complaints are not resolved. But there is no way to register and record complaints systematically.
Why don’t you file a complaint?
Vikram Shroff, partner at employment and labor law expert AZB, explains that there are many reasons for companies filing zero complaints. Initially, companies need to follow many laws related to health and safety. In some cases, there is a need to form a committee regarding health and safety.
Considering the experience of Covid, many companies are providing a better environment at their workplace. At the same time, many companies keep knowing the problems of the employees through surveys etc. from time to time and solve them. Such things have reduced or eliminated employee complaints related to health and safety.

According to the data, in the year 2023, there were fewer companies whose employees did not lodge any complaint as compared to the year 2022. , In the year 2022, employees of 965 companies did not lodge any complaint related to health and safety. This time this number came down to 944. Whereas in the year 2022, employees of 949 companies did not lodge any complaint regarding working conditions. In the year 2023, the number of companies here also reduced to 920.

Under the BRSR framework, it is mandatory for top 1000 listed companies to disclose information on complaints made by employees from FY 2023.
