Mark Wood has been ruled out for the rest of the year. Initially, Wood was ruled out of the first Test of the series against Sri Lanka with a thigh injury. Now it is known that he also has a serious injury to his elbow. As a result, England is not willing to take any risk with him. Due to which he is not playing for the rest of the year.

Wood is on the mend due to a thigh injury. For this reason, he tested the elbow. England’s fast pacer was surprised to receive the report. Wood did not know that his hand was injured. This is like a blow to the dead!

Wood commented, ‘Elbow discomfort beforehand, thought it was a routine check-up. But to my surprise, I found out that I have a slight ‘bone-stress’ injury in my right elbow. I assumed it was a minor problem that fast bowlers have to play with.’

‘I was very surprised that I was playing Test cricket with such a big problem and the pace was increasing. I have always worked incredibly hard on fitness, working extra with coaches and physios. These reasons make this injury all the more frustrating. Hopefully, I’ll be back at full speed early next year.” – added Wood.

England have many more games this year. England will play six Tests in the rest of this year. Among which are three Tests against Pakistan and three against New Zealand. There is also a five-match ODI and three-match T20I series against Australia.

After that, there is a three-match ODI series and a five-match T20 series on the West Indies tour. England will not get Wood in these series. All in all, England may suffer in the fast bowling department for the rest of this year.
