The Ministry of Interior of the Government of National Unity confirmed the cancellation of the arrest warrant issued against Libyan citizen Abdul Rahman Qajah by the Tunisian authorities.

The ministry explained in a statement that its work came based on the instructions of the head of the National Unity Government, noting that communication with the Tunisian authorities was through the Arab and International Criminal Police Office at the ministry, stressing that work is underway to return the citizen detained by the Saudi authorities in coordination with them.

Earlier, the family of Libyan businessman Abdul Rahman Qajah, who is detained in Saudi Arabia, announced their rejection of the politicization of his case, stressing that it is a purely legal case.

The family confirmed in a statement its respect for the efforts of the Libyan state, its presidency and government, as well as the Libyan judicial authorities.

Qajah also affirmed her respect for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Republic of Tunisia, noting that she is working to release their father within the framework of legal efforts.

The statement referred to the videos published by some suspicious pages that insult the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Republic of Tunisia.

The Qajah family and the Tripoli Residents Association also issued a statement in response to what was published by suspicious websites and pages that the family and the association have no connection to and that offend the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and its Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

The family stressed that this behaviour is irresponsible, immoral and does not conform to the family’s policy, as the case is legal and should not be politicised under any circumstances.

The family and the association expressed their respect for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, its King, Crown Prince, government and people.

This comes at a time when the Tripoli Residents Association called on the Presidential Council to intervene to release the Libyan businessman, Abdul Rahman Qajah, who is being held in Saudi Arabia.

This came during the meeting of the League delegation with the President of the Presidential Council, Mohamed Al-Menfi.

The Chairman of the Presidential Council welcomed the delegation and expressed his readiness to cooperate and communicate with the President of the Tunisian Republic, Kais Saied. He said that his relationship with him is very good and that he will communicate with him personally on the subject directly and resolve the issue as soon as possible. He pledged that the issue will be settled quickly.

A source told “Ain Libya” last June that the health of the Libyan businessman Abdul Rahman Qajah, who is detained in Saudi Arabia, had deteriorated, and that his sugar and blood pressure had risen, which could expose him to a stroke at any time, in addition to a heart attack and other health problems.

Qaja’s family appealed to the Libyan state officials to intervene to release him so that he can complete the rest of the treatment prescribed to him by the doctors following up on his health.

A source explained to “Ain Libya” that Qajah’s arrest in Saudi Arabia came against the backdrop of a circular and Tunisia’s issuance of an arrest warrant to the Arab Interpol due to a denunciation and false information that the Tunisian authorities took from some media outlets and social media pages without evidence, indicating that there are efforts by the Government of National Unity and the Presidential Council to release him.

It is noteworthy that Abdul Rahman Qajah is a businessman and one of the notables of the city of Tripoli. He owns the “Qajah Jewelry” chain of stores for luxury jewelry and accessories.

In a related context, Rashid Sawan, head of the Libyan Businessmen Council, called on the head of the Government of National Unity, Abdul Hamid Dabaiba, in early May to intervene regarding the Tunisian authorities issuing an arrest warrant against Qajah.

Sawan said in statements at the time that the Tunisian decision makes businessmen in Libya afraid of economic dealings with the Tunisian side.

He added: “The issue does not amount to issuing an international arrest warrant, and it was possible to write to the Libyan government, especially since we have a strong economic and trade relationship between us, where it is possible to inquire about any issue regarding any Libyan businessman who has banking activity between the two countries.”

Sawan suggested to Dabaiba to form a committee that includes a delegation from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, Economy, Trade and Finance, the Central Bank of Libya, and the Business Owners Council, and to visit Tunisia to address this problem, which included a large number of Libyan businessmen whose accounts in Tunisia were suspended, and to find out the reasons for inflaming the situation in this way.
