All the motorists who use it are champing at the bit every morning. Work on the D 200, between Compiègne and Creil continues to exasperate the 27,000 motorists who use it daily. Every day, it’s the same story: the arrival in Creil ends in traffic jams. Thomas, a forty-year-old from Oisien who makes the trip between Compiègne and Creil several times a week simply can’t take it anymore. “At peak times, it can take up to 20 minutes to walk a few hundred meters,” he sighs.

For more than two years now, the portion of the D 200 between Rieux and the Carrefour des Pommiers (known as the McDonald’s roundabout) in Villers-Saint-Paul has been under construction. A transformation into 2 x 2 lanes which forces motorists to slow down when approaching the Creilloise area, with a limit of 50 km/h over approximately 2 km. Launched in June 2021 and after more than two years of construction, the work is nearing completion: the opening is planned for the month of November.

An 8 million euro project

“If everything goes well except bad weather, we will be finished by mid-November,” assures the department’s transport and infrastructure department. Over the next few days we will take care of the ground markings. We are completing the break in the guardrails in the central reservation, and at the beginning of November, we will install the vertical signage. » In total, the total amount of the operation is around 8 million euros.

“We are a little late,” confirms Jean Desessart, vice-president of the Oise departmental council in charge of roads and major projects. This type of operation cannot be done in six months. I understand that people are tired and worn out but it is necessary and it is for the good of motorists. » Important work, delayed by the specific nature of the terrain. “We are in a humid and flood-prone area, the soil moves a lot,” the department explains. This is what lengthened the deadlines a little. It’s better than a road that starts to buckle. »

The respite will remain short-lived for motorists since the second phase of the work, currently under study, will begin “at best” at the end of 2025. This time, 1 km between the Villers-Saint-Paul apple tree roundabout and the Marais roundabout. where the Campanile and Première Classe hotels are located. “The Marais roundabout will be moved and a footbridge for pedestrians and cyclists will connect Villers-Saint-Paul to the hotel part. » A little more patience for motorists in the Oise.
