Work on the future Sagunto Intermodal Platform will begin in the first quarter of 2024, as the Generalitat of Valencia has announced that it will allocate 51.4 million euros of the next year’s budget to this infrastructure.

The construction project of the new intermodal terminal, located on a plot of 688,000 square meters, is divided into two parts, one corresponding to the railway work, and the other to the urbanization. The first phase focuses on transportation infrastructure, an action that includes roads, electrification, and signaling and safety installations. On the other hand, the second construction project covers the urbanization and includes the accesses associated with the terminal, green areas, service networks and associated general facilities.

For the implementation of this project, on October 24, an agreement was approved between the Ministry of Finance, Economy and Public Administration, and the Ministry of the Environment, Water, Infrastructure and Territory, and Economic Business Spaces (EEE) for the design , construction and commissioning of this infrastructure, which has an estimated cost of 98.4 million euros and an execution period of 24 months.

Likewise, on November 3, the contracting of the works of phase 1 was also authorized, as well as the construction project of the interior urbanization, with a maximum expenditure budget for the contract of 114,337,474.69 euros.

As explained by the Generalitat of Valencia, the importance and need to execute this intermodal project, “lies in that it will allow the contribution of goods to the Mediterranean Corridor, by rail to the rest of Europe, but also to the national corridors of the Center (Valencia). -Madrid) and Cantbrico-Mediterranean (Valencia-Zaragoza-North), as routes of exit and entry of goods both to the port of Valencia-Sagunto, and to the industries of Valencia in general.
