Virudhunagar: Pensioners in Virudhunagar district are struggling to meet their daily expenses due to delay in getting their pension. The Labor Pension Scheme is being implemented by the Labor Welfare Department to help the manual laborers and construction workers who have no financial resources during their retirement. In this case, pension has not been paid to the workers who have registered in the welfare board offices across Tamil Nadu and received pension orders for several months. This stagnation occurs during every annual budget. Construction workers, auto workers get regular pension. But the pensioners in other 16 welfare boards are also facing problems in getting money. As far as the 18 welfare boards are concerned, there are 1 lakh 77 thousand unorganized workers, 53 thousand construction workers, 23 thousand sewing workers and more than 4 lakh registered workers working in the labor welfare board.

It also includes welfare board-wise pensioners. They have not been given pension since April. As a result, they pass their old age without any source of income. This problem is at Tamil Nadu level. The industrial district of Virudhunagar is causing great hardship to the pensioners. The district administration should suggest to take appropriate action.

District Secretary of Tamil Nadu Sewing Art Workers Munnetra Sangha Luardhuraj said: I have not received my pension since April. This is causing us a lot of trouble. The government should allocate funds and take appropriate steps to provide pension to all non-organised workers, he said.
