World AIDS Day 2022 | How to prevent HIV AIDS | World AIDS Day 2022 | World AIDS Day is observed on the first day of December every year to create awareness about HIV and AIDS among people. The theme of this year’s World AIDS Day is ‘Equality’.
According to the statistics of the AIDS Control Organization, the percentage of HIV infection in Tamil Nadu has been reduced from 0.38 percent in 2010-11 to 0.18 percent in 2019 due to the special focus of the Tamil Nadu government on controlling AIDS.
How does AIDS come about??
HIV AIDS is caused by the virus. Sufferers of this disease experience permanent damage to their natural immune system. It destroys the white blood cells in the human body. Then it attacks the immune system and makes the body unable to fight the disease.
The disease is spread in three ways: unprotected sex, unscreened blood, and transmission from an HIV-infected pregnant woman to her child.
HIV A person infected with the virus may not show symptoms for 3 to 10 years. When the sufferer feels these symptoms, he has reached the danger stage. Because of this, AIDS deaths were previously high worldwide. But due to continuous awareness and treatment methods that extend the life of AIDS patients, AIDS deaths have now decreased.
HIV The infection cannot be completely cured. But, ‘A.R.D.’ AIDS can be controlled by taking antiretroviral therapy (ART). People infected with HIV can live a disease-free life with proper treatment.
Tamil Nadu is a model in the prevention of AIDS than other states in India. 2,163 faith centers, 55 joint medical treatment centers, 174 joint joint treatment centers and free legal aid centers are functioning in Tamil Nadu to identify and provide better treatment to people living with HIV. Meanwhile, on the occasion of World AIDS Day, Chief Minister M.K.Stalin has appealed to the people affected by AIDS to be treated with due respect and dignity and to be given love and support.
