Laughing, Wilfried Happio, who is competing in the 400m hurdles series this Sunday, August 20, remembers his beginnings in athletics, at L’Haÿ-les-Roses (Val-de-Marne), not far from the district where he grew up. “I liked that, but going out in leggings in the city to go to training, it was not phew, it did not really correspond to the codes”. It was to channel a child who was “a little too restless at school” that his mother enrolled him in the local club. “But also because she didn’t want me to hang around,” smiles Wilfried, evoking the first strides at the age of 7 of a stubborn kid who already wanted to “train with the big ones”.
