Doha: The first season of the World Beach Pro Volleyball Tour, where the world’s top 20 beach volleyball teams compete, will come to an end in Doha. The championship to decide the winners of the 2022 season will be staged at the Aspire Park Sports Complex from today till January 29. The Beach Pro Tour’s memorable first season, which began in March 2022, culminates with Thursday’s championship.

The tournament is being organized by the International Volleyball Federation in collaboration with the Qatar Volleyball Association (QVA) and the Aspire Zone for a period of three years from January 2023. The Beach Volleyball Tour is organized on the basis of collaboration between Aspire Zone and QVA to conduct several international tournaments. After the champions for the 2022 season are determined, the Beach Pro Tour 2023 campaign will begin.

The top eight teams from the 47 events across the season, as per the December 5 rankings, will compete at Aspire Park. With a total prize pool of US$800,000, the winning team will receive US$150,000 in prize money. Qatar’s Ahmed Tijan and Sherif Younus are the top seeds in the men’s championship. The home pair will face a tough challenge from teams including reigning Olympic and world champions Kristian Sorum-Anders Mol of Norway.

Brazil’s world champions Eduarda Duda Santos Lisboa and Ana Patricia are the top seeds in the women’s category.
