Dead and missing in shipwreck
At least 25 people have died when a boat packed with migrants sank off the coast of Mauritania’s capital, the West African country’s official news agency said.
Among the survivors, 10 people were hospitalized and four unaccompanied minors separated from their families during the shipwreck were identified.

Withdrawal of US soldiers will be soon
The withdrawal of US soldiers from Niger, a demand of the military regime in power in this Sahelian country, will be completed “at the beginning of August”, announced the general of the US military command for Africa.
By early July, US soldiers from the Niamey base had left the country, leaving around 200 US troops at the drone base in the north of the country.

At least 26 dead in attacks on villages
At least 26 people, including 16 children, were killed in attacks on three villages in Papua New Guinea on July 16 and 18, the UN said, adding that the final death toll could exceed 50.
Papua New Guinea’s population has doubled since 1980, increasing pressure on land and resources and exacerbating tribal rivalries.

Typhoon Gaemi causes two deaths and damage
Typhoon Gaemi has weakened on its way to eastern China after bringing heavy rain and strong winds to Taiwan, killing two people.
