“It will be five times the size of the current Dubai International Airport and all operations of Dubai International Airport will be transferred to it in the coming years,” Dubai Ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum said while outlining its plans on Sunday. This airport will have 400 aircraft gates and five parallel runways. Dubai World Central is the newer of Dubai’s two international airports. Dubai International Airport was the world’s No. 2 busiest airport but as per DWC’s expansion plans its traffic will shift to the new airport.

This airport will be the centerpiece of a much larger plan, called Dubai South. It envisages the construction of an entire new city on 145 square kilometers of desert south of Dubai. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum said that as we build an entire city around the airport in Dubai South, the demand for housing for one million people will increase. We are building a new project for future generations, ensuring continued and stable development for our children and their children. He said that Dubai will be the world’s airport, its port, its city will be the new global centre.
