On Saturday, the third stage of the Latvian roller skiing championship started in Madona with a duathlon (running + roller skiing), but ended on Sunday with a team sprint in Uzvaras park, because in cooperation with the Riga Sports School “Arkādija”, the Latvian Ski Federation organized the final start of roller skiing this year in the reconstructed park of the capital. Therefore, after a two-year break, the roller skiing championship stage took place in the now renovated and beautiful Uzvaras Park.

Each of the team representatives took turns to complete the new 860m circle three times, thus each of them covered a total of two and a half kilometers, while the team covered a total of 5km.

For the men, one of the favorite duos – Raimo Vīgants and Niks Saulītis – was absent, but Lauris Kaparkalējs, who won the world champion title in team sprint with Vīgants in roller skiing, with whom Edgars Bernāns competed admirably, both for their skill and also “freshness” (they did not start in the duathlon on Saturday) won the expected victory (10:28.78). In winter, Kaparkalējs won the team sprint together with Sylvester Švaukst, who in tandem with Gustavus Sinats could claim one of the awards on Sunday, as last year they were the best juniors and third overall.

The two best youth teams finished in the next two places, fighting hard and fiercely for the gold in the V18 group. In this duel for the first place of the youth group, Emīls Kancāns from RSS “Arkādija” with Indrikis Circenas and representatives of the Cēsis City Sports School (CPSS) Ernests Skride and Rūdolfs Raudziņš were involved.

Kancāns and Skridi fought very similarly in the first stages, as well as the strongest representatives of both teams in the second stages, Circens and Raudziņš. In the final stage, Circens, representing “Arkadija”, was superior in the finish sprint by half a second, ensuring victory for Riga Sports School (10:32.75). Therefore, the third place overall and silver in their group for Cesisians.

The second best adult team raced together with the two until the last stage, where Patricia Eiduka’s younger brother Eddy, who has not competed in skiing for two years, but regularly runs with good results in the popular trail running series “Stirnu Buks” raced together with yesterday’s duathlon winner Sandy Suhanova. . Sukhanov with Eiduk was the fourth team that was able to finish in 11 minutes (10:39.97), taking second place in the adult group. Therefore, Suhanov’s second place in adults for the second year in a row, as in 2023 he was second together with Rainer Paegli. Aleksandrs Lūle and Bruno Krampe from Arkady finished fifth, who spent a little more than 11 minutes (11:04.85) in the distance and took third place in the adult competition.

Emīls Spolītis and Ernests Jekimovs from Cesinos, who took the first place in the junior competition, were the next to finish after 37 seconds, and the top six finished.

The main favorites from Madonna did not participate for the women – Kitija Auziņa and Linda Kaparkalėja, who became champions in the team sprint in winter. However, the only team of the adult group “Arkadiya” had a very tough competition from young girls from CPSS, despite the fatigue after yesterday’s duathlon. Samanta Krampe from Riga with junior Adrian Osmani won the first place (12:17.77), ahead of the young players Amelia Zakis and Laura Alzina by 0.4 seconds, who took the first place in the S18 group.

Even faster, with 13 minutes, six stages were completed by Kate Koln and Helena Roštok from Madonia, who took the second place in the S18 group, so the women got identical to the men, namely the adult team in the first place, and the youth group teams in the next two. Since there are no awards in the overall standings, but only by age groups, the Krāslava Sports School did not put the optimal duo – Adriana Šuminska and Valerija Burtseva in one team, who would fight for Top 3 in the absolute rating, but Šuminska, who dominated yesterday’s duathlon together with Evia Radivinska, finished fourth and took first place in the junior competition.
