JAKARTA – Federation Christian student se-World or the World Student Christian Federation abbreviated as WSCF chose Indonesia to host the World Christian Student Meeting. The meeting will take place in Jakarta in mid-July.

The WSCF Global and WSCF Regional Management, including Asia-Pacific, Africa, Europe, Middle East, North America and the Caribbean, will attend with representatives from 50 countries.

General Chairperson of the Indonesian Christian Student Movement (GMKI) Jefri Edi Irawan Gultom, explained, “The WSCF Global meeting officially carries the theme Envisioning Ecumenical Youth Advocacy and Solidarity in the 21st Century: Human Rights, Gender Justice and Leadership Engagement.

“A series of activities will start from 13 July to 24 July 2023. GMKI as a member of WSCF Global is making many preparations to welcome this international agenda,” said Jefri in his statement, Monday (3/7/2023.

He explained that the WSCF meeting in Indonesia would specifically discuss World Peace, Human Rights and Gender Equality.

“Indonesia always gives opinions on world peace in international forums, and this is one of the main reasons why this activity is being carried out in Jakarta,” he said.

The choice of Indonesia as the host is inseparable from the GMKI Central Management who succeeded in moving the WSCF Asia-Pacific office and administrative center in Jakarta in 2022, where previously it was located in Hong Kong. This was conveyed by Yowanda Yonggara, WSCF Regional Executive for Asia Pacific and Global Program Director.

Yowanda, explained that moving the WSCF Regional Asia-Pacific office was not an easy struggle, because they had to compete with countries in Asia-Pacific, such as New Zealand, Australia, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Hong Kong, India, Japan, South Korea, Myanmar , Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, and Timor Leste.

This office relocation demonstrates WSCF’s commitment to Indonesia’s role and contribution in advancing WSCF’s work in the Asia-Pacific region.

“This will further demonstrate Indonesia’s contribution in building ecumenical solidarity, interfaith dialogue, and leadership development in the Asia Pacific region,” said Yowanda.

Apart from discussing internal WSCF Global, the World Christian Student Meeting next July will also discuss a number of issues and formulate WSCF Global’s participation in addressing international issues, particularly Human Rights and Gender Equality.
