World Cup 2022: The second day of the World Cup kicked off last night (Sunday) and although there were many events on the grass, other events were at the center of the World Cup’s agenda when the Iranian players expressed support for the many demonstrators in their country in protests against the regime.

Iranian players’ protest against the regime
Even before the game, one question hovered over this game, will they sing or not sing? Of course, the reference is to the players of the Iranian national team and the Iranian anthem. Indeed, during the anthem the Iranian players stood and none of them sang the anthem, even in the stands many of the Iranian fans did not sing and even booed during the anthem as a protest and identification with the protesters in Iran. Another storm occurred just before the game when the captains of several countries including England, Wales and the Netherlands announced that they would not carry the captain’s armband that they planned to wear during the game. The captain’s ribbon with the colors of the pride flag and the slogan “One Love” was initially planned to be worn by them, but after threats from the organizers that they would come in and even grab a yellow card at the start of the game, the captains withdrew their intention to wear the ribbon.

And there was also football, the English team that reached the semi-finals in the previous World Cup ran over the Iranian team with a score of 1-6 when the standout on the field was Arsenal’s player Bakyoko Saka, at the beginning of the first half the Iranian goalkeeper ran into his team’s player and had to leave the game. In the second game held last night, the Dutch team defeated the Senegal team and took a significant step towards advancing to the next stage, the goals for the Dutch team were scored by Cody Gakpo and Davey Kalsen.
The last game that was held last night was between Wales and the United States, the game itself ended in a 1-1 draw when the United States showed great ability, but what captured the heart the most was the identity of the goal scorer for the Americans. 22-year-old Timothy Wah already scored the goal for the Americans in the 36th minute. Wah is the son of the President of Liberia and former star George Wah. Although the father was a big soccer star, it was the son who managed to score a goal in the World Cup.
Today: Messi and Argentina start the journey
The World Cup enters its third day today and the pace of the games is increasing. Lionel Messi and Argentina, who many in the world hope to win, will start their journey towards the title today in a match against Saudi Arabia. The world champion will also start her journey today in a match against the weak Australia, two more matches that will be played today will bring together Mexico and Poland in an intriguing match and Denmark and Tunisia will also meet for the opening match.
