“Moroccans are today proud of the Moroccan sports strategy towards Africa, thanks to the enlightened vision of HM King Mohammed VI, and endorsed through the announcement by the Sovereign of Morocco’s candidacy to host this grandiose sporting event with Spain and Portugal,” Mr. Daouda told MAP.
This clear-sighted vision, focused on youth, makes HM the King a “leader in Africa”, which was consecrated on Tuesday in Kigali, during the presentation to the Sovereign of the CAF Excellence Award for the year 2022, he highlighted.
Noting that the Kingdom’s leadership on the African scene was demonstrated through the support of African countries, governments and peoples, for the national football team, semi-finalist at the Qatar-2022 World Cup, but also through the congratulatory messages addressed to HM the King by several heads of state, Mr. Daouda stressed that “the Atlas Lions represented the whole of Africa”.
According to Mr. Daouda, head of the development program within the African Athletics Confederation, Morocco is today the leading African football power, both in terms of the performance of national clubs, at the level of the Botola Pro D1, described as the best on the continent, or the quality of the infrastructure, all assets that have allowed the Kingdom to host major competitions, but also African selections.
“All the sporting and economic indices, the geographical position, the Moroccan-European civilizational and cultural interaction throughout history only support the chances of the Morocco-Spain-Portugal trio to benefit from the confidence of the States that will vote at the FIFA Congress in 2024 for the designation of the winning file,” he added.
The success of this candidacy is likely to highlight, once again, the strong, historical and civilizational ties between Africa and Europe, he stressed, expressing the hope that FIFA can fully understand the civilizational and human dimensions of this joint candidacy, which will pave the way for a new era of complementarity between Africa and Europe. The objective, he continued, is to make this event an accelerator of development in Morocco, and therefore in Africa, but also in Europe.
HM King Mohammed VI announced, Tuesday in Kigali, Morocco’s joint candidacy, with Spain and Portugal, to host the 2030 World Cup, in a message on the occasion of the presentation of the CAF Excellence Award for the year 2022 (CAF President’s Outstanding Achievement Award-2022).
This joint candidacy, unprecedented in the history of football, will be that of the junction between Africa and Europe, between the north and the south of the Mediterranean, and between the African, Arab and Euro-Mediterranean worlds, noted the Sovereign in this message, which was read by the Minister of National Education, Preschool and Sports, Chakib Benmoussa.
