Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has started the process of forming the team for T20 World Cup. Although the selectors have completed the preliminary talks, now they are waiting for the head coach Chandika Hathurusingha. who went to Australia on urgent family work between the Sri Lanka series.
On April 22 Hathurusingh will set foot in Dhaka. The Cricket Operations Department of BCB confirmed this to RisingBD. On returning to Hathurusingha, the three selectors will hold a meeting in the process of forming the team for the upcoming Zimbabwe series, USA series and T20 World Cup. The meeting was slightly delayed due to the death of Chief Selector Gazi Ashraf Hossain Lipu’s sister.
A member of the selection panel told RisingBD over the phone, “We have held preliminary talks ourselves. However, we have not yet been able to hold a meeting after Eid. We will sit ourselves in a couple of days. After that, when the coach returns, I will sit with him and finalize the issues.
Yesterday, captain Nazmul Hossain had a calm talk with Cricket Operations Committee Chairman Jalal Yunus and selector Hannan Sarkar. They discussed for a long time in the room of Jalal Yunus after the Dhaka League match. Apart from this, they also talked about covering Afif Hossain.
Zimbabwe series in mind for now. Bangladesh will play a five-match T20 series against the team in May. The process of forming the World Cup team will start from this series. BCB wants to play the best team against Zimbabwe. The selectors are not willing to do the tests. But the focus will be on making alternative cricketers for the World Cup.
