- The Swiss curlers take victories number 5 and 6 at the home World Championships in Schaffhausen.
- On Wednesday they won 8-3 against New Zealand in the morning, followed by a 7-4 win against the Czech Republic in the evening.
- The CC Geneva team is taking a big step towards the knockout phase, but still has 4 challenging games ahead of them.
After the two victories on Tuesday, the Swiss curlers in Schaffhausen also delivered on Wednesday. However, the two successes against New Zealand and the Czech Republic were a must for Skip Yannick Schwaller’s team. Both teams are clearly ranked behind Switzerland.
Against New Zealand (8:3), Pablo Lachat, Sven Michel, Schwaller and Benoît Schwarz-van Berkel had everything under control at all times in the morning. The underdog acted too incorrectly and was never able to put pressure on the Swiss. After 8 ends the New Zealanders gave up.
The game against the Czech Republic in the evening was similar (7:4). As they did against the New Zealanders, Schwaller and Co. secured the preliminary decision with a two-man house in the 6th end, making it 6-2. After 9 ends, the Czechs led by Skip Lukas Klima congratulated the Swiss on their victory.
Challenging tasks await
The CC Geneva curlers are currently on course for the knockout stages. They have won 6 of their 8 games so far. However, difficult tasks await in the remaining 4 games. The opponents are Italy, Scotland, Germany and Canada.
