“The players gave a positive image of Moroccan and African football. They showed the world the new playing identity of Africans, through their excellent performance during this World Cup,” said Regragui during the press conference given after the defeat of the Moroccan selection against France (0-2), Wednesday evening in the semi-final.
“HM King Mohammed VI and the Moroccan people are proud of this historic journey of the Moroccan selection at the World Cup,” he said, noting that “the national team has earned the respect of all.”
After emphasizing that the Atlas Lions delivered a great match against the reigning world champions, Regragui expressed his regret at not being able to realize the dream of the Moroccans and the public who encouraged the players throughout this competition.
“In the rhythm despite the injuries, despite the fatigue, the players gave their all. I think we made them doubt at times and already, for us, it’s extraordinary. The step was a little too high for us, not in terms of quality or tactics, but more physically. We had too many injured players. Despite that, we made it to the semi-finals,” he suggested.
“We made too many technical errors in the first half. In the second half, we were more skillful, we lost fewer balls, we caused them problems, we created a lot of situations but we were not decisive in the 30 meters,” he continued.
Regarding the classification match, scheduled for Saturday against Croatia, the national coach said that the Moroccan team will aim for victory, noting that “this match, although difficult, will be an opportunity to bring in new players”.
Morocco lost to France with a score of two goals to 0, scored by Théo Hernandez in the 5th minute and Randal Kolo Muani in the 79th minute.
The final will take place this Sunday between Argentina, winner of Croatia (3-0) in the semi-final, and France, which is aiming for a third world title.
