Built for the World Cup, this stadium has hosted a total of 7 World Cup matches in 974.
The unique number of 40,000 seats is derived from Qatar’s international dialing code.
Among them specifically the name Maidan 974 refers to the number of shipping containers used to build the Maidan.
As in Russia, Brazil and South Africa, the stadium is designed to be recycled to avoid leaving unused stadiums after World Cup matches and to be economical.
Now that the stadium has successfully fulfilled its goals and purpose, Qatar World Cup officials have decided to remove it.
974 Maidan was designed with eye-catching multi-colored shipping containers that formed the restrooms and interior settings.
Designed for the World Cup, the stadium was not air-conditioned, so matches were held only in the evening.
It is noteworthy that the stadium, constructed from shipping containers, gave it an industrial feel.
Qatar has yet to reveal exactly where parts of the stadium will go after the tournament, although organizers say it could be used to build several smaller stadiums in the future.
