World Decent Work Day: A call to enhance opportunities for workers

The General National Union of Libyan Workers called for the development of economic and social policies to enhance job opportunities for all workers in the public and private sectors, and to support workers’ rights and achieve decent work for them.

The Union said in a statement on the occasion of World Decent Work Day: “We call on employers to implement decent work by concluding employment contracts, social protection, by registering workers in the social security system, implementing the Occupational Safety and Health Law, applying the labor law in accordance with the working hours in the law, and allowing workers to enjoy the weekend and paid leave and not Their salaries are paid less than the minimum wage.”

He also called in the statement received by the “WAL Agency” to “encourage social dialogue between the three labor parties in a democratic climate, advance our national economy, assume all responsibilities, and strengthen union work and the culture of rights and duties.”

The Union pointed out “the changes the world is witnessing today due to climate change and new work patterns in the labor market imposed by artificial intelligence and digitization,” calling on the Arab and International Labor Organization to govern artificial intelligence in the labor market, including electronic contracts and remote work, by obligating the provision of social protection, even working from their homes. And the effects of climate change on the labor market due to high temperatures and exposure to ultraviolet radiation, which poses a threat to the worker’s health and the quality of work.”

At the conclusion of its statement, the General National Union of Libyan Workers stressed its “demand to support workers’ rights, achieve decent work, and invest in the human element with decent work, fair wages, and comfortable retirement, because protecting the worker means protecting the family, and protecting the family means protecting humanity as a whole.”
