“World Food” calls for $105 million to help the displaced in Lebanon

The United Nations World Food Program announced on Sunday the launch of an emergency operation to mobilize $105 million to provide food aid to one million people affected by the recent escalation in Lebanon.

In a statement, the program quoted Matthew Hollingworth, Director of the World Food Program in Lebanon, as saying: “As the crisis worsens, we are preparing to help up to one million people through a combination of cash and food support. We need additional resources to support and expand the scope of our response.”

The statement indicated that “Lebanon is on the verge of collapse and cannot tolerate another war.”

He continued: “To continue these very important operations, the World Food Program urgently needs $105 million until the end of the year. We call on the international community to mobilize resources and support the humanitarian response.”

He stated that the acceleration of the conflict this week has increased the need for an immediate humanitarian response “after thousands of people have already been displaced, which has exacerbated the needs of a population already burdened by accumulated crises.”

The program said it had begun distributing ready-to-eat food rations, bread, hot meals and food parcels to families in shelters across the country.

Adding: “To date, we have been able to reach more than 66,000 people in shelters throughout Lebanon.”

Since September 23, the Israeli army has launched the “most violent and widespread” attack on Lebanon since the beginning of the confrontations with “Hezbollah” about a year ago. As of Saturday evening, it resulted in 816 dead, including children and women, and 2,507 wounded, according to Lebanese health data, amid fears. From the confrontations to a regional war.
