World Health Organization: The flu season is expected to be more severe than usual

by time news

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the upcoming flu season is expected to be more severe than usual, and this after the last two years saw particularly low numbers of flu patients, due to the hygienic precautions taken during the corona epidemic.
Appointments can already be made: the flu vaccination campaign is underway

The public’s natural immunity to the flu has decreased significantly, and following the removal of precautions from the corona virus, an upcoming winter outbreak of the flu virus at the same time as the corona virus is expected to worry the health system. In the countries located in the southern half of the planet, where the flu season occurs between the months of March and September, there was a significant increase in flu cases, which is expected to also apply to the flu season this coming winter in the Middle East region.

Prof. Avishi Ellis, Chairman of the Internal Medicine Association and Director of the Internal Medicine Department at Bilinson Hospital: “World Health Organization data, along with the high morbidity rates in the Southern Hemisphere, indicate a severe flu that is expected to hit us in Israel with full force. At the moment, the flu is not at its peak yet, so this is exactly the right time to prepare and get vaccinated. I agree with the recommendations of the Ministry of Health in Israel and the international health authorities and recommend to the general public, both children and adults, pregnant women, and especially to populations at risk not to wait for the wave and get vaccinated with the flu vaccine as soon as possible.”
