World Health Organization’s decision to maintain travel restrictions on Pakistan

According to the declaration, Pakistan and Afghanistan have been declared responsible for the global spread of polio, and the WHO Emergency Committee on Polio has recommended the extension of restrictions.

WHO says that transmission of polio virus between Pakistan and Afghanistan is ongoing. There has been a significant increase in the spread of polio in Pakistani sewage. According to him, Karachi, Peshawar, Quetta block are the strongholds of polio virus.

According to the declaration, children deprived of polio vaccine in Afghanistan are a threat to Pakistan. By June this year, 175 million Pak-Afghan children will be vaccinated. With the evacuation of refugees from Pakistan, polio has been transferred to Afghanistan. Polio is spreading from Afghan refugees returning from Pakistan. Polio vaccination needs to be improved at Pak-Afghan crossing points.

The statement added that polio vaccine access to children in southern KP is critical. Pakistan’s polio surveillance will continue for another 3 months. Polio vaccination will be required for those going abroad from Pakistan. WHO will review Pakistan’s efforts to prevent polio after 3 months.
